Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is one of the most
significant health and social problem the world is facing today. HIV has a
global prevalence of 80% among the adults and 35 million people dying of
diseases related to it as it weakens the human immune system. Human
immunodeficiency virus is a lentivirus that causes HIV infection and hence
AIDS. We cannot deny the fact that HIV as disease compromises different aspects
of peoples lives. It may be socially, mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually,
sexually and many more. click on the video icon to learn more about HI virus.
The shock of an HIV positive diagnosis can be especially
traumatic for someone who had not previously believed themselves to be at risk
of acquiring the virus. This leads to a series of rejections and hate towards themselves.
As with the impact on physical well-being, the impact of HIV on emotional
well-being is highly variable. Obviously there is some kind of correlation
between the two .For example there would be a greater decline in
mental/emotional well-being to a person who hasn’t received ARVs to a person
has been receiving the treatment. This is basically caused by the power of
sight, seeing sometimes can dictate our feelings and emotions which directly
affects our personality.
We all know that HIV can affect inimate relationships since
any form of sexual contact can put the infected person’s partner at risk of
getting infected with HIV. Infected people are aware of this disease but still
be ignorant and perform unprotected sex with the intension of infecting more
people
Spiritually there might be some confusion due to
contradictions that they encounter between what they previously believed in, that
gave them meaning in life and what they should now follow. This may make them
ask themselves questions that cannot be answered. This may occur because they
compare spirituality and their illness.
Among the factors of health lifestyle, interaction with
others( social factor) is a significant factor. In short, this is a factor
relating to one self in a society and its organisation. It is often a mission
for HIV positive people to interact with their peers hence unhealthy lifestyle
result. It is also an inevitable truth
that maintaining a balanced social life is difficult, especially when the
technology is advanced to it’s higher standards. It is simply easy to wake
switch on your gadgets and allow them to do everything for you. This has
provided a thumb for HIV positive people to hide, now that the world is
rejecting them, a particular example in (VOX, 2018),HIV people find it hard to communicate well with their
surroundings simply because HIV is incurable yet deadly contagious and everyone
is running away from being infected by it, HIV infected people thus tend to
live in isolation for the rest of their lives. another good example is in the video below:→
